Day 3 Cultural Hike to Nagarkot

After an early breakfast, the day begins with an approximately 30-minute drive to Changu Narayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in the Kathmandu Valley, dating back to the 4th century. This historic site is adorned with intricate and rare carvings in stone, wood, and metal—some of the finest craftsmanship found in the valley. As you explore, you’ll appreciate the detailed artwork and sculpture that represent centuries of culture, religion, and tradition rooted in the area.

Next, embark on a scenic day hike from Changu Narayan to Nagarkot. The trail takes you through peaceful Tamang and Newar villages, offering sweeping views of Bhaktapur, lush green hills, and distant snow-capped mountains. The hike from Changu Narayan to Telkot takes about 1.5 hours. From there, you’ll continue uphill toward Nagarkot, passing by landmarks like Jalpa Devi Temple and Peace Buddha Park along the way. The total hike duration is about 3-4 hours.

Day 4 Culture & Enlightenment; Kathamandu (departure day)

Start your day with a peaceful mountain sunrise—an unforgettable moment as the golden light gradually reveals the Himalayan peaks. After breakfast, begin your cultural excursion with a drive to Patan Durbar Square, one of Nepal’s most treasured UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Known as the “City of Fine Arts,” Patan is full of history and tradition. Walk through its old alleys to see hidden courtyards, carved temples, brick houses, and workshops where local artists still work with metal, wood, and stone.

Next, you'll drive to Pharping, home to the Neydo Tashi Choling Monastery—a hidden gem for those seeking a profound spiritual atmosphere.

This monastery is an ideal place for meditation, Buddhist study, and retreat. Pharping itself is deeply revered for its connection to Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Vajrayāna Buddhism in Tibet.

Just a short walk from the monastery lies the Asura Cave, also known as the Demon Cave, one of the most sacred sites in Vajrayāna Buddhism. Surrounded by tranquil hills, this cave is said to be where Guru Rinpoche reached enlightenment. Pilgrims often perform rituals here and offer khatas (ceremonial scarves), which drape the cave walls as heartfelt expressions of devotion and respect.

Our services will end with a private transfer to the Kathmandu airport.

Sustainability

We are a Travelife-certified company, and we work to reduce all negative impacts on the natural and social environments. One of our approaches is to support our business partners, such as accommodation providers and excursion providers, in adopting sustainable best practices. By doing so, we promote greater tourism dispersal and help boost the local economy. Our focus on sustainability also includes creating awareness among our guests, office, and trekking staff.

  • Environmental Initiatives

We prioritize environmental practices that minimize negative impacts on the natural environment. For example, we use biodegradable hand soap and cleaning powder for our office, and we source these products from women who are mostly from poor, remote communities. We also encourage travelers to bring reusable water bottles and water filter tablets to reduce plastic waste. Our guides collect trash along the trail and dispose of it in designated areas, and we use cloth bags as much as possible. In addition, our trip includes low-carbon impact activities such as village walks, hiking, visiting local artisan workshops, and interacting with locals. Our office is solar-powered, and we prioritize energy-efficient lights and water-efficient toilets.

  • Sociocultural Initiatives

Our sociocultural practices focus on supporting the local communities we visit. Our trip takes guests to medieval towns that have remained largely untouched by modern life, promoting greater tourism dispersal and boosting the local economy. Meals are cooked using local produce, and we cater to guests' dietary requirements, such as vegetarian and vegan options. Our focus on sustainability also includes providing poverty-stricken children with shelter and education and engaging in various volunteering and charitable organizations. Additionally, our trip focuses on gaining a deep understanding of the everyday lifestyles of locals, strolling around old alleys and traditional houses, and hiking through ethnic villages.

Everything was great and we had a wonderful time!

We had such a wonderful time in Nepal! Yugen Earthside truly understands the ethical aspect of traveling, recognizing the importance of the protection of animals and cultures. We recommend them to everyone who wants to experience something authentic and unique. I absolutely loved the organisation, response time, and everything else about the company! I believe they reflect my ideals and my care for the planet and conscious traveling.

Our favorite parts about the trip were the hike to Nagarkot and the Patan visit. The local Nepali partner was perfect; we were so taken care of, it made us feel so happy!
